Dr. Lisa Becht was quoted in an article written by Sara Youngblood Gregory for Popsugar titled “What To Know About Flying While Pregnant, Including Why The Aisle Seat Is So Important”.
There is a lot to think about during pregnancy: what to eat, finding the right doctors and making a birth plan, and preparing your home for a new family member. But life doesn’t stop just because of a pregnancy, and it seems unrealistic to avoid travel for nine months, especially if you’re working, visiting family, or you just need a vacation.
“People often think flying increases the risk of miscarriage, which has not been shown in studies and has no basis scientifically,” says Lisa Becht, MD, FACOG, a board-certified reproductive endocrinologist at HRC Fertility Newport Beach and HRC Fertility Mission Viejo in California.
But there are some important factors to keep in mind, including duration of flight, potential risks, and how to make the flight as comfortable as possible.
Throughout the article, Dr. Becht goes on to discuss some potential risks of flying while pregnant and how best to reduce these risks.
