Does a woman’s weight affect her chances of becoming pregnant?
Dr. Richard Paulson of HRC Fertility / USC Fertility was recently featured on Good Morning America discussing how studies show that the weight of a woman in relation to their body mass index can hinder their chances of becoming pregnant. Dr. Paulson was quoted as saying “If a woman’s body mass index is above 40, significant risks could affect patients when trying to get pregnant.”
Patients are turning to new weight loss medications such as Ozempic to help bring the BMI to a satisfactory level. Dr. Paulson states that “There isn’t much research on the impact of these on these weight loss drugs as it relates to fertility and pregnancy.”
Dr. Paulson continues stating “We need to collect the information and ascertain that its safe in this indication and that its going to be working for us.”
